MINI-CHALLENGE ARCHIVE (2008/2009)

April 8, 2009

The Video Challenge starts today!

A big thank you to all teams that participated in the Get Creative for Cash Challenge! We will be announcing the winners soon. Now it's time to launch our final mini-challenge!

For this advocacy challenge, each participating team is asked to create a video that will introduce potential participants to the 2009/2010 Darfur Challenge beginning in September 2009.

Don't have access to a video or digital camera? We will also accept scripts/screenplays that outline your vision for the video in writing. We may consider getting your script filmed.

The winning team will have its video prominently displayed on the Darfur Challenge website!

Video length:

Videos should not exceed 2 minutes. If you chose to only create the script, make sure to time it to see how long it takes.

Judging criteria:
  • creativity of approach
  • ability to compel other students to join the Darfur Challenge
  • adherence to the time limit

Deadline:

You have until May 2 to complete your video or script, and we must receive a copy of your video or script by Monday, May 11.

Important to remember:

The major focus of the video should not be to simply describe the humanitarian concerns in Darfur or to provide background about the crisis. The goal of the video is to highlight the advocacy and fundraising projects of your DC team and to emphasize why participating in the Darfur Challenge is meaningful to you. In these ways, you can encourage other students to join the Challenge!

It's easy to take part in our Video Challenge!

1. BRAINSTORM different approaches with your fellow team members. Will your video discuss your own fundraising and advocacy campaigns? Think about why you think it's important for Canadian students to engage in these issues, and what would encourage others to do so. Feel free to discuss your ideas with your Darfur Challenge Communication Officer.

2. CHOSE an idea that is feasible and will work well in this format. Pay attention to the time limit!!

4. SEND in your video or script! You can e-mail scripts to info@darfurchallenge.org. Videos should be burned to CD or DVD and mailed to the following address:

    The Darfur Challenge
    C/O The Darfur/Sudan Peace Network
    P.O. Box 56094
    Montréal, QC
    H3Z 3G3

Good luck everybody, and remember that your video can make an important statement about Canadian student advocacy on Darfur. Your actions mean a great deal to the children and youth in Darfur.

Looking forward to seeing your submissions!
